SALTWATER SHOOTOUT ROLLS OUT A FUN CATEGORY FOR NEW TEAMS!
T minus 7 days and counting until the kickoff of the 2012 Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit. Leg 1 of the 3-tournament series, The Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Shootout, is held on the weekend of May 12th. Anglers who have fished the Shootout before can expect the same format, prizes and parties they have experienced in the past with the Shootout.
Event promoter, Bluewater Movements, has something new in store for teams that have never fished any of their summer tournaments before – it's called the Greenhorn TNT.
“The Greenhorn TNT is a fun category geared towards attracting new teams to our summer tournaments, “ said Jamie Bunn, owner of Bluewater Movements. The Greenhorn TNT offers the opportunity to new teams to enter into a drawing to win a free entry into the Saltwater Shootout, provided none of the people on the team have ever fished one of the Bluewater Movements summer tournaments before. The Greenhorn TNT drawing for 3 winning teams will be held during the Bonefish Bash at Bonefish Mac's on Thursday, May 3rd. Greenhorn TNT teams receive all the same hospitality benefits in the Shootout, are eligible for all the prizes in the general prize structure and will also be able to compete for the Greenhorn TNT trophy against their fellow Greenhorn competitors! The Bonefish Bash is also the final opportunity for teams to pre-register for the Shootout and save $100 on the entry fee. Scheduled hours for the Bonefish Bash are from 6pm-9pm. Early entry fee for the Shootout is $375 per boat plus tax through May 3. After May 3, the late entry fee is $475 per boat plus tax.
The ‘Pick 3' is another exciting category in the tournament with a unique rollover format much like that of the well know KDW Jackpot. The KDW Jackpot dished out a record setting $81,000 to the Rebound fishing team back in 2010. Whereas the KDW Jackpot targets Kingfish, Dolphin & Wahoo exclusively, the Pick 3 may also incorporate the other 2 eligible species in the tournament – Blackfin Tuna and Cobia. A random drawing is conducted on the morning of the tournament to determine which 3 of the 5 species eligible in the tournament will be the target 3 species for the day in the Pick 3. The purse from the Pick 3 pot in the 2011 Showdown tournament rolled over into this season. It is expected to reach near $10,000 in the May 12 Saltwater Shootout event.
For those who are testing the waters in tournament fishing or just consider themselves novice anglers, the Shootout has a division that caters to the “Average Joes.” The division pays 5 places with 1st place receiving $2,000.
The kickoff party is Thursday, May 10th from 6pm-10pm at the Pompano Beach Civic Center-1801 NE 6th Street, Pompano Beach, 33060. There are a number of fun activities including live music, free fishing clinics for kids, silent auction, raffles and more! All activities are open to the general public.
