Here's to the holidays in Florida—some of that time spent under the ocean's waters. It's hard to find the time to wrap the gifts, sit down to a dinner with relatives and catch up with other friends far away, much less get out on the water on free time, but it's a great time of year to enjoy the very reason why many of us live here: the ocean, its life and its sport.
Diver James Johnson sent in some nice underwater shot of recent dives, with a rundown of his recent action off Fort Lauderdale.
“The big gag was taken in 15 to 20 feet of water (which was unexpected) off Hollywood beach while I was hunting hogs just after the water temp started to drop, and the big hog was taken in the same area in 30 feet of water.
“The lobster photo was from last Saturday 12/17 in 20 to 25 feet of water off north Fort Lauderdale. On the same trip we found a really nice ledge around 40 feet full of snapper and a nice black grouper that was borderline so we passed on him. The ledge also had a few small under size gags. I missed a solid mutton and took a big cero and some lobster home for dinner. It wasn't the most eventful day but had fun taking a lot of video.
"Everything was freediving from my kayak. My friend Jason Bosley was fishing with me and taking the pictures, and we are both graduate students at FAU."
