Carrabelle, Florida is the place to be this year's July 4th weekend. July 6-8, 2012, marks the date of the 24th Annual Big Bend Saltwater Classic (BBSC), benefiting the Organization for Artificial Reefs, Inc. (OAR). The tournament, filled with family fun and local flavor, has grown to be one of the top saltwater fishing tournaments in Florida based on participation.
Founded in 1989 by a group of dedicated local anglers, the tournament was intended to be the primary fundraising project for OAR. A Tallahassee-based non-profit organization, OAR's purpose is to expand and develop a system of artificial reefs in the Northeastern Gulf of Mexico. Through the efforts of BBSC and OAR, artificial reefs have been deployed from Mexico Beach to Dog Island. These reefs help support the fish populations as well as the overall ocean environment.
With recreational, masters, junior, and recreational team divisions and numerous inshore and offshore fishing categories, the BBSC is certain to provide any angler with a hearty competition and a fun-filled fishing weekend. Whether you're bringing the family out for the weekend or just looking to compete individually, the Saltwater Classic is the place to be.
For more information about registration and the tournament, please visit the BBSC website at www.saltwaterclassic.com . Happy fishing and we'll see you in July!
