Anglers to Invest in Keys Youth During Take Stock Backcountry Challenge
Targeting trout, redfish and snook, the Take Stock in Children Backcountry Challenge proffers an important fundraising opportunity for philanthropic anglers Friday through Sunday, Sept. 28-30, in Key Largo.
Now in its 13th year, the annual event benefits the Take Stock in Children Scholarship Program, a statewide initiative that awards economically disadvantaged students in grades seven through 12 two-year college scholarships upon graduation, in addition to providing funds for local Rotary scholarships.
The tournament kickoff is set for Friday, Sept. 28, at Jimmy Johnson's Big Chill restaurant, located at mile marker 104 bayside in Key Largo. An anglers and captains meeting, followed by a welcome party and silent auction, are scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m.
Anglers can begin fishing as soon as festivities end and continue straight through until 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30. An awards dinner, live and silent auctions are to follow at the Big Chill starting at 6 p.m.
Trophies for first through third place are to be awarded to anglers in adult, pro and junior (age 17 and under) divisions, as are other prizes.
Entry fee is $100 per adult angler and $50 per junior angler. After Sept. 27, fees increase by $25 for adults and $10 for juniors.
