Whether a bull in a china shop or an angler on a mirror-like flat, there's simply one thing to remember, don't move, much. Any unfamiliar noise or vibration can be the beginning of the end. If the fish aren't in range and you have to get closer, do anything but crank up the horses. A trolling motor will work most of the time, and a pole, if you have one, will do the job, but possibly the best strategy for catching fish is to shut down and let the tide or wind carry you into position.
This holds true offshore as well. Sometimes it's best to just get in a fishy area and simply let the wind and current do the rest. No muss-no fuss.
